5 Unique Couple Tattoo Ideas To Tell Your Love Story

5 Unique Couple Tattoo Ideas To Tell Your Love Story

Hi! As an artist, over the years I’ve worked with many couples who wanted to celebrate their love with something special. Not just any tattoo idea, but something they can truly call their own.

Today, I’m sharing with you 6 couple tattoo ideas that I personally worked on. Each design has a story behind it, each being inspired by real couples that I worked with, each being created to represent moments, feelings and symbols of love. And yes, if you like any of these and want something custom made for you and your partner I offer custom designs as well. Just fill out this form and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Let’s dive into these beautiful couple tattoo designs one by one.

Fire & Water Couple Tattoo

I created this design for a couple who were totally different yet somehow perfectly in love. Fire represents passion, energy and boldness. On the other hand water represents someone who’s calm and caring. To show softness I added a tiny heart within the water drop and to show strength I added a bold curve to the fire.

The couple I created this design for told me, “Even though we have arguments on even the smallest of issues, the truth is we can’t live without each other.” This line stayed with me for sure. So I created a design that celebrates contrast. In my opinion this design is for two people who shouldn’t work as a couple but somehow do, two people who know that love isn’t about being alike, it’s about growing together despite the differences.

In regards to placement, I could think of a few ideas. You could choose to get it on your forearms so that when you stand next to each other, the fire and water come together and make a beautiful match. If you are looking for something a bit more gentle, your calves or ankles are perfect spots.

Another lovely idea for placement is on the back of your arms. When you stand side by side, it’ll almost look like fire and water are meeting each other. If you are looking for something really meaningful, you could place them on your chest, one on each side. It’ll keep the design close to your hearts where your love flows every single day.

Sun & Moon Couple Tattoo

I created this design for a couple who are different in the most beautiful way, just like the sun and the moon. The sun stands for warmth, energy and the power to light up any moment. The moon on the other hand stands for peace, reflection and quiet strength. In the design, I wrapped both symbols in soft, flowing chains. The lines represent the invisible connection between the two souls who are always connected no matter how different their worlds may seem.

In regards to the meaning behind this design, I feel this design is perfect for couples who balance each other out. For couples who revolve around the same feeling of love yet shine in different ways. Perhaps you are the calm to their chaos or maybe the spark to their silence, this design celebrates how a beautiful love story can be created by two very different energies.

In regards to placement, there are several options that you could consider. Getting the sun and moon on your forearms would be a wonderful idea When you two hold hands, your designs will visually connect in a symbolic way. The upper arms and shoulders could be a good idea if you are looking for something that catches the eye. The ankle or calves could be good spots if you are looking for something a bit subtle. The back of your arms could also be a lovely spot, the sun and moon will face each other when you stand together.

Puzzle Pieces Couple Tattoo

This design came as a result of a conversation I had with a couple. A couple came to me with a really sweet idea. They said, “We are total opposites but somehow still together. In a way we’ve always felt like two puzzle pieces that were meant to be together.” This line in particular stuck with me and inspired this design.

For this design I created 2 simple yet meaningful puzzle pieces. One piece says LO and the other piece says VE. When you put them together, the word LOVE is formed. I feel this design represents how two people can complete each other no matter how different they are.

I feel this design is perfect for couples who simply click and represent the kind of love where everything eventually falls into place. It’s for those who are not always the same but still meant to be. It’s all about the beautiful feeling of being someone’s missing piece.

In regards to placement, I feel these puzzle pieces would look amazing on either wrists, ankles or even forearms provided each person gets one half. When you are holding hands or standing side by side, just like your story, the full tattoo of LOVE also comes to life.

Day and Night Couple Tattoo

This design is the result of a custom design request I received about a year ago. During our conversation the couple shared something with me, something that became the starting point of this design. They told me, “Due to our jobs we are never on the same schedule, yet somehow we’re always on the same page about almost everything.”

With this design I wanted to create two landscapes, one showing daylight and the other showing the night sky. However, the scene in both landscapes is the same: mountains in the distance, a quiet lake and tall trees. It is the time of the day which shifts everything.

One side has the sun’s warmth, the other side has the moon’s calm glow. What this design tells us is that two people can move in the same direction yet not necessarily at the same pace. Perhaps one of you is a bit grounded and the other is a dreamer. One of you wants to stay up late and the other wants to wake up early. Love doesn’t have to depend on perfect timing, it depends on shared values, shared respect for each other and showing up even if it’s not at the same time.

In regards to placement, I feel a good idea might be opposite forearms. The triangles will look powerful and form a complete story when you two stand side by side. Another idea for placement could be on the back of your arms or even shoulders. The goal with this design isn’t to match perfectly, it is to show that two people can reach the same destination even if they run at different speeds.

My Heart’s Key Couple Tattoo Idea

I drew this design for a couple who took a long time to find each other but when they did meet, it felt right, it felt like both of them unlocked something that they both didn’t even know they were missing. This design is for the kind of love you wait for, the kind of love that fits.

On the left side of the design is a vintage style key. On the right side of the design is a heart shaped lock. It’s a simple yet powerful concept and the message is simple: You are the only one who will ever have access to the most guarded part of me.

I feel this design is perfect for couples who believe that true love isn’t a connection which feels forced, it’s about finding that one person who naturally fits your soul just right. It’s about trust, it’s about patience and it’s about the quiet magic that just happens when you meet the right person. This design represents more than just love, it symbolises trust, loyalty and emotional security.

In regards to ideas for placement, I feel this design would look good on wrists, ankles or inner forearms. You could also place the lock on one person’s shoulder or back of the arm, and the key on the other’s – so when you stand side by side, it comes full circle. No matter where you go, this design will be a reminder of your trust and loyalty to each other.

Every love story is different in its own unique way. You could see yourselves in one of the designs above or want something that’s uniquely your own. If you’re looking to get a custom, I would love to help create something that symbolises your love story, something you can call your own. Just fill out this form and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
